Today, I traveled from Delhi to Saharanpur on a passenger train, and I want to share my experience.

At first, I planned to take a cab from Gurgaon to Old Delhi. Then, I intended to travel by express train to save time and avoid the heat. But my father was with me. He suggested we take a passenger train from Gurgaon to Delhi. This train leaves at 2 PM and takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. Our express train from Delhi was at 5 PM, so I asked him, “Why waste so much time?”
He replied, “Think about saving money. Since both of us took a leave today, time is not a problem. If we reach Delhi by 3 PM, we can go out. We can have some hot samosas and tea at Old Delhi station. We can enjoy the moment. We don’t get this chance every day!”
If I had followed my plan, we would have taken a cab from Gurgaon to Delhi, which costs around ₹500. But with my father’s idea, our total travel expense was just ₹150 for both of us!

The Downsides of Low-Cost Travel
However, traveling at a lower cost also comes with some challenges:
- Crowded Train & Heat – It was a passenger train, so it was crowded. Traveling in the heat was uncomfortable. But honestly, even if we had taken a cab, we would still have faced the heat in Delhi!
- Dirty Washrooms – I checked 5-6 bathrooms in the train. All of them had waterlogged floors. They also emitted a terrible smell.
- People’s Attitude – Some people behave as if the train belongs to their father. They spit anywhere, sit wherever they want, and some uncle groups talk so loudly that they disturb others. I also felt disturbed while writing this blog.
- Train Stoppages – Even when the train runs at good speed, it stops for a long time at certain stations. I think trains should be scheduled better so that minor delays don’t affect the overall journey.
Right now, I have reached Tapri Junction, and the journey continues… 🚆
